Itasca State Park
Park Rapids is the gateway to the Mississippi Headwaters in Itasca Park, which was established in 1891 and is Minnesota's oldest state park offering over 32,000 acres and more than 100 lakes are included in the park to explore.

Forests & Trails (hiking, fishing, hunting, biking, canoeing)
Chippewa National Forest: Covers a staggering 1.6 million acres and includes more than 700 lakes, 930 miles of streams and 150,000 acres of wetlands. The Forest includes the largest breeding population of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states.

Paul Bunyan State Forest: Encompasses more than 72,000 acres of terrain that's rough and hilly, with many tiny bogs and ponds. Offering 100s of miles of trails for ATV and OHM enthusiasts.

Two Inlets State Forest: Offering more than 26,000 acres ready to be explored.

Heartland Trail: Minnesota's first rail to trail system is a 48 mile multi use paved trail from Park Rapids to Walker and beyond.

Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge: This 43,000 acre Refuge is one of nation=s premier sanctuaries for viewing birds and wildlife.

Many distinctive golf courses to choose from thoughout the area. Everything from 9 hole courses for the novice players to challenging 18 hole layouts for the avid golfers.
Visit the local quaint towns
Each featuring their own charm such as Dorset, restaurant capital of the world with more restaurants per capita than any city in the United States. Stop by Akeley, birth place of the legendary Paul Bunyan. Nevis sports the largest Tiger Muskie statue at Muskie Park located right on the Heartland Trail. And so many other towns to seek out all within a haul hours drive of Park Rapids.
